More government spending = less satisfaction

The Center for Governmental Research put together a great study in which they compared the level of and rate of satisfaction with government services in Long Island and Northern Virginia. Here are the vitals:

  • Long Island has 439 government agencies; northern Virginia has 17
  • Long Island spends 45% more per capita than northern Virginia on government services
  • Local property taxes are 55% higher in Long Island than northern Virginia
  • Citizens in northern Virginia rate the level of service provided by local governments and schools higher, and say they have better access to government officials than citizens of Long Island
Will we ever learn? As Reagan said, "..government is not a solution to our problem; government is the problem." Read more of the study here.
