More government spending = less satisfaction
The Center for Governmental Research put together a great study in which they compared the level of and rate of satisfaction with government services in Long Island and Northern Virginia. Here are the vitals:
- Long Island has 439 government agencies; northern Virginia has 17
- Long Island spends 45% more per capita than northern Virginia on government services
- Local property taxes are 55% higher in Long Island than northern Virginia
- Citizens in northern Virginia rate the level of service provided by local governments and schools higher, and say they have better access to government officials than citizens of Long Island
